Jam?

In a shameless attempt to garner followers to my music type blog and therefore encourage people to listen and then buy my beautiful music as well as watch me on the Ustream, I have thought of an interesting and popular question,as well as constructing possibly the longest sentence ever.

*Deep Breath*

Which is the king of jams?

Is it the humble strawberry jam? The tarty raspberry jam?

I put it to you that it is most certainly the Peach Jam, combining the tart and the sweet in one wonderful concerto of fruity preserve

My home made Rhubarb and ginger jam.

The End.

Rhubarb? Good grief Mel
Peach, try that.
Once you have you'll never touch another

What's wrong with rhubarb? I love the stuff, I have it as a sweet, and as a savoury vegetable (especially good with mackerel). There is but a small window to enjoy the lovely stuff every year, and so I like to make the most of it.

Peach jam? Sounds wrong to me.

It grows in the dark Mel.
I 'm with you on the ginger front.
I did have some ginger jam once.
That was luverly.
I also had banana jam and pineapple jam.
But peach....

Mel said...

Wow, reproducing jam? You are right that *must* be the king. Someone has to make most jams, not grow them.

Please can we stop right there with banana jam. Surely that is a mess?

*revisists lunch*

Nick Tann said...

No, rhubarb grows in the dark. That's what forced rhubarb is.

Admitedly banana jam is a mess...

DAMSON JAM!

End. Of.

Rasberry jam.
On toasted wholegrain bread.

Nick Tann said...

That's very bitty Ex. One would be picking bits out for days.

Nick Tann said...

Damson is only nice when it has big lumps of the fruit in it. Innint?

Mel said...

I thought that you were referring to peach jam growing in the dark.

Sorry

*embarassed face*

Excelsior! said...

Oh its intensive in terms of teeth picking, i'll grant you that. But i find all the little crunchy bits very satisfying.

Nick Tann said...

Good for a long journey Ex. If one had forgotten ones book..

If you don't mind people thinking your on The Drugs cos of all the facechewing to get the seeds out.

I just found this, I thought I'd dreamt it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb_Triangle

I'm 45 next week Ex, I've stopped careing what people think of me

My mother makes loads of jams. She makes this gooseberry one I wouldn't feed to a fucking dog.

Mel said...

Patience Nick, I am at work, and have stuff to do. I can only mess around on the internets for most of the day.

I am aware of the rhubarb triangle, my sister lives in it. Forced rhubarb is bloody lush, I do it with one of my crowns every year.

My jam still wins, but home made Raspberry jam on toast is also very good.

All shop bought jam is nasty. FACT.

Damson. I'm with Dave. Not like that...

Nick Tann said...

Due to the large amount of raspberries growing in my garden this year, Mrs Nick will be making jam.
If only we had a peach tree.
Would you say ALL shop jam is nasty Mel. There's some Bonne Mama or somesuch that is quite palatable

Mel said...

Yes, yes I would. That Bonne Maman is the devil's work. You CAN taste the shop in it.

I have only had shop bought jam once, and it was that nasty Bonne Maman. I only got some cos I'd not long left home, and was feeling a bit homesick, and thought that jam would cheer me up. It tasted HORRIBLE and i was sadder than ever.

Bloody shop bought jam. They don't make it like my mum (or like I can now).

Nick Tann said...

Mel poor Mel, calm yourself. I vow that from this day hence, I will never buy jam in a shop again.
NOT even peach!

Mel said...

Nick, to be fair, I did leave home 15 years ago, and stuff. I have calmed considerably in that time. But yeah, shop bought jam - just say NO.

Dave said...

Mel - I buy my jam from a garden centre and it has awards and a paper lid on the jar. Is that okay or do I have to start making it?

They do a cheeky tomato and balsamic salsa and good chutney too.

CHUTNEY?

Nick Tann said...

I went home last night and threw all my shop bought jam at the wall. My kitchen floor is now awash with jam, glass and blood.
I hope you're happy now Mel.

Mrs Nick made chutney form left over home grown toms. Luverly it is.

Morello cherry. End of.

Nick Tann said...

Is it though 4#?
Are you talking shop bought filth or homemade?

fourstar71 said...

Ideally homemade but as our cherry tree is still only about three foot high, probably not.

I'd be happy to sample Mel's jam though.

Er, that sounds wrong.

Nick Tann said...

Yes, 4#, it does.
I do fancy a lick of her ginger though....

*is wronger*

Mel said...

Fourstar - we are separated by fewer than six degrees, so anything is possible.

Dave - it is Ok if they just use fruit and sugar and nothing else, otherwise it too is wrong.

Nick - I will set up a lovely WI style chutney ad jam (and other preserves) stall the next time I am in the UK, my lovely webfriend.

"...we are separated by fewer than six degrees..."

We are?

Mel said...

yes, you know someone (http://yetanotherbloomingblog.blogspot.com/) who knows someone (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/poet.html?id=99677) that i know.

fourstar71 said...

Coo, you're not wrong. Small world. I'm seeing Antonia at the weekend too.

Nick Tann said...

Are you saying "Jam tomorrow" Mel?

I think you are.

Alas, diet to my faddy diet, jam is a no no. Although I do sometimes stray, it's usually the beer that is my secret mistress.

MMMmmm, I have just made a fresh batch of rhubarb and ginger jam. It is LUSH!

If I could find a bloody PYO in this goddamn country, I would also be making strawberry and raspberry jam. I will have to satisfy myself with hedgerow jam in the autumn.

Nick Tann said...

You could pick my raspberries, I've got dozens in my garden.
